The U.S. change in gender policy has caused travel warnings around the world. Denmark has officially changed its travel advisory to tell transgender citizens to check with the U.S. Embassy before going on a trip. This shows that the country is becoming more worried about how the U.S. treats transgender and non-binary people. This comes after similar warnings from Germany and Finland. These were all caused by new rules made by the Trump administration that have made it harder to recognize and protect transgender people. It is now written on the website of the Danish Foreign Ministry that people who have officially changed their gender or whose passport says “X” should check with the U.S. Embassy before trying to enter the country.

The update specifically talks about how the U.S. travel system only accepts two gender choices on travel documents and visa applications: male or female. This makes things harder for thousands of trangender and non-binary travelers. The advisory doesn’t directly mention President Donald Trump, but it does coincide with his recent order that all federal documents, like passports and prison records, must reflect the sex assigned at birth. This means that transgender and non-binary identities are no longer recognized at the federal level.
The U.S. The State Department has also stopped giving out passports with the “X” on them, which is bad news for people who don’t identify as male or female. Susanne Branner, who runs the LGBT+ Denmark advocacy group, told Danish radio that the situation was very bad: “If you are transgender or have an X in your passport, can you risk being denied entry?”There must be a clear answer to this. Branner said that thousands of Danes could now be mistreated or even turned away from entering the country because the gender marker on their passport doesn’t match their appearance or past records. This diplomatic quake isn’t just a bothersome paperwork matter; it’s an attack on the whole world.
Allies see the U.S. less and less as a leader for civil freedoms and human rights. Instead, they see it as a place where LGBTQ+ rights are actively falling apart. Germany’s advice now says that people whose gender identity doesn’t match their birth sex should get in touch with U.S. foreign services before they travel to get more information. Finland shared the worry and made it clear that people whose passports show a gender other than their birth sex may not be able to enter the U.S. This planned change in European policy shows that people around the world are becoming less trusting of the current administration’s stance on human rights in the United States.
The message is clear: the U.S. is no longer seen as a safe or welcoming place for everyone, particularly people whose identities are different from what most people think of as normal. The rest of the world is watching and judging as America fights with its own identity.

People are now telling the country about its human rights record, even though it used to be the leader in the fight against tyranny and discrimination.
It’s important to ask: Is the U.S. still on the right side of history?
Because we might want to pay attention if our friends tell us to be careful.
What took place?
Not too long ago, the U.S. was the most powerful country in the world when it came to fighting for human rights.
Presidents used to be brave enough to stand up for people’s freedom and respect across oceans, on world stages, and even inside enemy lines. mistreated. Now in year 2025.
Denmark, Germany, and Finland, three of our closest friends, are telling their own people that transgender people may no longer be safe in the U.S.
Our US State Department is turning down requests for passports that accept non-binary people. And our president signs orders that define gender in strict, binary terms, which erases the names of thousands of people who don’t fit a government-approved norm.
How did the country that used to lead the world in fighting for human rights turn into athe country other countries warning to be dangerous?
It’s not just papers. It has to do with principle.
When we forget about human dignity, and rights; while letting our leaders change reality to fit their ideas, we’re going down the very road we swore we would destroy.
As the rest of the world stares in shock, we must ask ourselves:
Are we still the good guys?

People all over the world are being warned not to come to our country because we are a threat. This means we have not only lost our good name, but we have also destroyed the pedestal we used to stand on.
America set the bar for the standard for moral and ethical governing. Other great nations named us the leader of the free world because of this.
Not too long ago, the U.S. was the most powerful country in the world when it came to fighting for human rights.
Presidents used to be brave enough to stand up for people’s freedom and respect across oceans, on world stages, and even inside enemy lines.
In 1987, Ronald Reagan famously told Mikhail Gorbachev, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” from the Brandenburg Gate. It was a direct challenge to tyranny and a sign of how determined the United States is to break down barriers of oppression and separation.
President George W. Bush said to explain the war with Iraq,”The regime of Saddam Hussein is a grave and gathering danger,” He has repeatedly broken UN rules and has weapons that can kill a lot of people. We will not let bullies control our lives and use their power to blackmail the rest of the world. The mission was seen by the Bush government as a moral duty to free the Iraqi people from oppression and fight against crimes against humanity, torture, and the suppression of free speech.”
President Lyndon B. Johnson told the American people on July 28, 1965, that they were in Vietnam to keep one of the most serious promises the American Nation had ever made. Thirteen presidents, including President Eisenhower, President Kennedy, and now I, have promised to help protect this small but brave country over the past eleven years. We can’t now break our promise, break our word, or leave the people who trusted and believed us to the terror, repression, and murder that will happen next. Johnson said that protecting the weak from terror and repression was an important part of America’s character.”
During World War II, America helped bring down Adolf Hitler’s Nazi government by freeing prisoners from concentration camps and prosecuting war criminals in the name of human rights and dignity.
Yet 2025, the U.S. closest allies are warning the US not to go back on those beliefs.
Denmark, Germany, and Finland have all changed their travel warnings, but not for war zones or autocratic countries. They have changed them for the United States of America.
Why the warning?
Transgender people may face harassment, questioning, or even being turned away just for being themselves. This is more than just stamps in passports.
It’s about how the morals of a country that used to be proud of standing up to injustice have crumbled. The country that used to be against tyranny now lets it happen inside its borders.
The country that once said it was morally superior when it freed other people, now imposes narrow definitions of gender identity, takes away protections, and shuts down dissent.
Not to mention the United States has now been put on the watchlist for civil rights violations.

What is The Human Rights Watch List?
Human Rights Watch and the UN keep a list of countries that may be violating basic rights like freedom, safety, fair treatment, and food and shelter. A country can be on this list if it hurts protestors, discriminates, unfairly jails people, or ignores fundamental needs.
Why is the US on the list? Recent U.S. criticism includes police violence against minorities. Mistreating immigrants, especially at borders. State-specific voting restrictions. Imprisonment and jail mistreatment. Not addressing poverty and homelessness. These flaws caused watchdog groups to say, “Hey, the U.S. needs to clean this up.”
What If the U.S. Stays on the List?
If nothing changes, other nations may stop trusting or dealing with the U.S. The US may lose global leadership. Allies may reduce commerce or aid.It might make the U.S. look like a nation that doesn’t safeguard its citizens. It may spark greater domestic upheaval, especially among young people wanting reform.
Being on the list indicates the world is observing the U.S. and saying, “You’re not treating your people fairly.” If nothing changes, the country’s reputation, influence, power, ability to trade: at fair market value or any international trade can be cut off.
The world nations can decide to come together and remove the leader oppressing their citizens, especially when they fear for their human rights.
Our closest allies—Denmark, Germany, and Finland—are warning their own citizens that the U.S. may no longer be safe for transgender individuals.
Our State Department is denying passport requests that recognize non-binary people. And our president signs executive orders defining gender in rigid, binary terms erasing the identities of thousands who don’t conform to a government sanctioned norm.
We’re turning into what we fought to destroy, all Tyrannical Rulers in the name of ethical high ground, moral standards, human decency and standing for human rights. Not only did we fight to get rid of it, we led the charge and convinced major nations to get on board to help fight these human injustices. We have always been the first to say if diplomatic talks break down, then free the people by force because we must end injustice by any means necessary. Our travel rules are similar to those of the governments we used to fight, our leaders are depriving citizens of their rights, dignity and respect, and our allies are warning their own people about us.This means that we are not on the right side of history.
So, I ask:” We The People”, what happens when the original leader of the movement to overthrow all Tyrannical leaders by force begins to behave as one?
